Twelve charities have been awarded a total of £57,907 in grant funding from the Newcastle Building Society Community Fund at the Community Foundation to help them deliver vital community support.
Our community grants programme is just one of the ways we work to create positive change in our communities. Grants from our Community Fund of up to £5,000 benefit local causes across the North East, Cumbria, and North Yorkshire.

Our strategic community priorities

So far this year, we've awarded a total of £57,907 to 12 charities, supporting projects linked to our five strategic community priorities:
- Food poverty
- Work and opportunity
- Debt management
- Homelessness
- Sustainability and the environment
These priorities are a response to our region's key needs. They are guided by our ongoing collaboration with the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
Developed by the Foundation, the Vital Signs reports are a guide to the key issues affecting our region. They suggest how individuals and businesses can work with charities and community organisations to address them. You can view all the reports on the Community Foundation website.
Charities who received a grant this round include Citizens Advice Carlisle and Eden, Skills4Work in Gateshead, YMCA Northumberland, Meadow Well Connected in North Tyneside, Hambleton Foodshare in North Yorkshire and more.

Our Community Fund grant nominations are now open.
Since 2016, we’ve awarded more than £1.7m to benefit 492 local causes.
All our members are entitled to nominate a charity for funding. The charity must be based within 10 miles of one of our branches within the North East, Cumbria, or North Yorkshire, and the project must align with one of our community priorities.
