Our colleagues volunteer their time, energy, and skills to drive positive change in our communities.
Our Purpose is connecting our communities with a better financial future, and a core part of that is to help make positive change within them. Volunteering is just one of the ways our colleagues help bring this to life.
We have volunteering-friendly policies so that colleagues can use their time flexibly to support good causes and make a real difference. This includes two paid volunteering days. They regularly support a range of activities, including supporting employability workshops, delivering meal services, mentoring, sports coaching and more.

Through our partnership with the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, we're also looking at how we can deliver greater impact through our volunteering. In line with some of the Foundation's Vital Signs data, we're focusing our volunteering efforts around these themes.
Here's some of our volunteering highlights:
Most recently our Property Services team visited the YMCA North Tyneside’s Patterdale estate in the Lake District to support the charity with some estate management.
To celebrate Earth Week, our Environment Task Force set up a Society-wide clean up across our head office and branch network. Together, colleagues spent 220 hours collecting around 100 bags of waste!
