Supporting communities without access to everyday banking

Since 2015, more than 6,000 bank branches have closed, leaving many people with little to no access to vital financial services.

In our Gosforth and Knaresborough branches, we pioneered the OneBanx multi-bank kiosks, to help restore access to cash in communities where banks have left town.

The kiosks use Open Banking technology to allow small businesses and personal customers to make cash deposit and withdrawal, free of charge, from their bank accounts.

We’re working with OneBanx to install a multi-bank kiosk in our new Pickering branch.

In communities where banks have left town, the kiosks help provide a convenient and accessible way for residents, businesses, and visitors to continue accessing cash through their accounts.

“As an independent business owner time is often in short supply, and undertaking routine banking tasks can be pain-staking when you haven’t got nearby access to a bank. The OneBanx kiosk provides a lifeline to both the market traders and local residents of Knaresborough. It’s the first time I’ve heard of a solution like this, and as an independent business trading on the market it’s so convenient to have these services right on our doorstep!”
